Dr. Zhan Kang is a Changjiang Scholar Chair Professor of Dalian University of Technology. He graduated from Shanghai Jiaotong University in 1992, received his MEng in mechanics from Dalian University of Technology in 1995 and his Dr. –Ing. degree from Stuttgart University, Germany in 2005. His current research involves issues such as topology optimization, structural optimization under uncertainties, design optimization of smart structures and nanomechanics. Dr. Kang has published over 100 research papers in peer-reviewed international journals and one monograph. He has received 5500 citations and has an H-index of 39 (Google Scholar). Dr. Kang has been granted the Outstanding Youth Fund of Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC). He has been principal investigator of 8 NSFC projects and a Key Project of Chinese National Programs for Fundamental Research and Development (973 Project). He has also conducted many consultancy projects.

Raul Duarte Salgueiral Gomes Campilho is a Permanent Auxiliar Professor at ISEP – School of Engineering, Porto, Portugal. His Academic Qualifications, Skills, and Competencies - Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Major in Transport (ISEP), with 16 values - Master in Mechanical Engineering, Major in Mechanical Constructions (FEUP), with 17 values (Very Good) - PhD in Mechanical Engineering (FEUP), with unanimous approval with distinction - Habilitation in Mechanical Engineering (FEUP), with unanimous approval. He has published Twenty-three books (e.g., Advances in Numerical Modelling of Adhesive Joints – Springer; Finite Element Method: Tools for Structural Analysis – Publindústria, Adhesively-bonded repair techniques for composites and wood: Experimental and Finite Element approaches - Scholars' Press, Natural fibre composites - CRC Press, Strength prediction of adhesively-bonded joints - CRC Press). One hundred and thirty-six book chapters in books from international publishers. Publication of 320 papers in indexed international journals such as Composites Science & Technology, Composite Structures, Computational Materials Science, Engineering Fracture Mechanics, International Journal of Fracture, International Journal of Solids and Structures, International Journal of Adhesion & Adhesives, Composites Part A and Composites Part B, among others, in the area of fracture mechanics, experimental characterization of materials and adhesive joints, design of structural adhesive joints, strength prediction of composites by advanced techniques, machine design and process improvement. He presented 508 papers at international conferences and 11 papers at national conferences in the aforementioned areas. Reviewed more than 120 papers in international journals such as the Journal of Adhesion Science and Technology, International Journal of Adhesion & Adhesives, Composite Structures, Engineering Fracture Mechanics, International Journal of Fracture, Computational Materials Science, among others. J. Xavier is currently an Assistant Professor (Professor Auxiliar) at the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (DEMI) at NOVA School of Science and Technology (FCT NOVA) of NOVA University of Lisbon (FCT NOVA). J. Xavier is an integrated researcher member at the Research and Development Unit for Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (UNIDEMI). UNIDEMI received by the FCT-MCTES the evaluation of ``EXCELLENT''. Besides, J. Xavier has been collaborating with other external institutions namely LAETA/INEGI/UP, CITAB/UTAD and ISISI/University of Minho. Since obtaining the PhD degree, J. Xavier has participated, as a researcher, in 10 projects with industry and 11 projects funded by national government agencies (e.g. FCT, Portugal2020, Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad, ES, EPSRC Fellowship, UK). He is currently a principal investigator in a FCT project with reference: PTDC/EMD-EMD/1230/2021. J. Xavier has published 85 papers in international peer-reviewed journals with an accumulated h-factor of 28(25) and with 2309(1883) total(independent) citations. Among them, 81 were published independently from the PhD supervisor and 29 were published as a senior (corresponding) author. Shorting the articles, 75 papers were published in top specialty peer-reviewed journals (quartile in category Q1/Q2). J. Xavier has published 4 book chapters and contributed with 1 didactic publications, among other (non published) academic resources for students. J. Xavier completed the supervision/co-supervision of 1/3 PhD (3nd cycle), 13/23 MSc students (2nd cycle) and 2 MSc ERASMUS student. Moreover, he is carrying out the supervision/co-supervision of 3/4 PhD and 2/3 MSc students. The PhD candidates are from NOVA SST, NOVA Medical School, Technical University of Madrid (ES), University of Aveiro, Universidade Federal Fluminense, Brasil. He has been invited as member of juries of PhD and MSc thesis in Portugal, Europe (France, Spain, Italy) and Brazil. He has also been invited to international visits in the framework of research and projects. He is also a regular reviewer of international and national peer-reviewed journals. J. Xavier has been collaborating as membership of scientific, organizing committees and courses. He has been invited as chairman in section at different international and national conferences as well as figuring in scientific and organization committees. Moreover, he has been participating in COST Actions dealing with the wood, timber, wood-based products and X-ray computed tomography. Furthermore, efforts in transfer of technology from the research promoted or in which he has been involved were actively engaged. Hans Fecht is Chair Professor in the faculty of engineering science, computer science and psychology at Ulm University, Germany and the Director of the Institute of Functional Nanosystems. He is also the office director for Cluster Metallurgy Europe, an international non- profit organization, since 2015. Prof. Dr. Fecht has published over 500 scientific papers. He has served as the European editor for the Journal of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, and the regional editor for the American Journal of Nanotechnology, and as the associate editor for the International Journal of Theoretical and Applied Nanotechnology. An elected fellow and member of the Max Kade Gesellschaft in New York, Dr. Fecht is also a Member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts. In 1998, he was awarded a G.W. Leibniz Award from the German Research Foundation.

Baoguo Han, Professor of Civil Engineering at Dalian University of Technology since 2012, holds a BS and MS in Material Science and Engineering (Harbin Institute of Technology, Harbin, China, 1999, 2001) and a PhD in Engineering Mechanics (Harbin Institute of Technology 2005). He was invited to the University of Minnesota and has worked as a visiting research scholar there for three years. His main research interests include cement and concrete materials, nano-engineered cementitious composites, smart materials and structures, multifunctional concrete, fiber reinforced concrete, and ultra-high performance concrete. He has published five authored books and one book video, three edited books, 17 book chapters, and more than 200 technical papers. The citations and h-index/i10-index in Google are 10734 and 54/156, respectively. The research outcomes have been reported as research highlights more than 20 times. He has held more than 20 authorized national invention patents and was awarded the first prize of Natural Science by the Ministry of Education of China. Professor Han is a Fellow of the International Association of Advanced Materials, and has served as a member in more than 30 scientific professional societies (including an academic organization, as journal chief editor and editorial board member, and on a review panel for scientific research projects and awards) and as a reviewer for more than 150 books and journals. He has been awarded Top Peer Reviewer in the Global Peer Review Awards powered by Publons in both Materials Science and Cross-Field, listed in Highly Cited Chinese Researchers by Elsevier, and named in the world’s top 2% scientists by Stanford University.

Dr. Marianna V. Kharlamova holds PhD degree in Physics (Spectroscopy) from University of Vienna (Vienna, Austria) and PhD degree in Chemistry (Inorganic Chemistry, Solid State Chemistry) from Lomonosov Moscow State University (Moscow, Russia). She graduated from Lomonosov Moscow State University with MSc degree in Chemistry and BSc degree in Materials Science. Dr. Kharlamova is an experienced materials scientist with an extensive expertise in the development, synthesis and characterization of advanced materials. She acquired 18 years of research experience at research laboratories in recognized universities. She has a strong background in Chemistry, Materials Science, Nanotechnology, Bionanotechnology, Physics and Biophysics. She has a large experience of the design and conduction of material synthesis and characterization experiments in chemical, physical and biophysical laboratories, the processing, analysis and interpretation of the obtained data and the preparation of reports and manuscripts.

Matteo Tonezzer received his PhD degree from the Faculty of Physics at the University of Trento, Italy. In 2011, he won the Young Scientist Award from the European Materials Research Society (EMRS). He worked in research centers in France (ESRF), Brazil (UFMG), Vietnam (HUST), Italy (INFM, CNR), South Korea (INHA) and USA (GeorgiaTech). He is currently working for the University of Cagliari, Department of Chemistry. His main area of interest concerns the sensing properties of nanostructured organic and inorganic materials and the use of machine learning towards smart sensing.
